G2522. Bold European 19th century wheel-cut white cased gold-cranberry glass ewer, having a shouldered ovate body stepped above a wafered domed foot, with an annulated cylindrical neck and serpentine-shaped pouring lip drawn out from the top of the walls opposite to an applied “strap”-form colorless cased gold-ruby glass handle with returns at the shoulders and top of the neck.
The cutting boldly pierces the opaque-white outer layer of glass, circumscribing the body with two aligned rows of large tabbed rectangular panels, nested between three rows of round punties; and a band of ten short flutes circumscribing the stepped base. The foot reiterates the design of the body, banded with eight tabbed rectangular panels punctuated by punties. The neck is finished with two lined rows of closely spaced flutes, above a closely spaced chain of small oval punties adorning the basal ring. The cutting on the neck and the shoulders is interrupted to accommodate the application of the handle. Dating is the second half of the 19th century. Good condition. Measures 12 ½" tall and 5" diameter. $695.00
